Ms.Weaver will be seen on the campus of West Virginia University. She is working on her double major in sports and exercise psychology/ physiology. She is hoping to attend a Physician Assistant school for her master’s to pursue becoming a PA.

Interview:

  1. What are the qualifications throughout high school that got you where you are today?

Weaver says that in high school she became a Certified Patient Care Tech. She was able to perform phlebotomy at a level-one trauma center. This led to her being able to gain patient care hours for the healthcare experience.

  2. How do you balance academics with physical and mental well-being?

She described this sentiment as being oftentimes challenging to navigate. Weaver handles this by planning her weeks out. This way, she is able to prioritize her school along with her health. Making sure she puts aside time to focus on herself and do things like working out every day has helped her tremendously. She highlights the importance of surrounding yourself with friends and doing things that are simply for her.

  3. How do you approach seeking help with challenging concepts?

Ms.Weaver says it is always important to use your support system. You can find people in or outside your major, everyone is willing to help. She asks her peers first and then searches the internet for any more questions. If she can’t get answers from this two-step verification strategy, she then turns to her professors for further explanations.

  4. What advice would you give to your Freshman self?

There are many adversities that college will shove in your face. How you react and choose to move forward will truly decide its impact. Weaver says that her advice to herself would’ve been to be patient and look at the bigger picture. Not everything is always going to go how you plan and being able to bounce back will prove much more powerful. She says that you will fail in certain things throughout college, but that is okay.

  5. What are you most excited about in the future?

Becoming a healthcare provider has been in Ms. Weaver’s cards for a while now. She has always wanted to help others. She describes being a healthcare worker as being the provider that she has always wanted for herself, to someone else.
